The National Republican Guard (GNR) detains on average around 280 drivers per week for excess alcohol. This reality was revealed within the scope of an enforcement operation dedicated to combating driving under the influence of alcohol.
Driving under the influence of alcohol led the GNR to carry out thousands of detentions since the beginning of the year. The numbers reflect the continuation of the problem of driving under the influence of alcohol on Portuguese roads.
The GNR remains the security force responsible for a large part of traffic enforcement in the national territory, including breathalyzer tests carried out on Portuguese roads.
