The 12 schools of the Special Group of Rio de Janeiro carnival begin this Friday (4) to define the samba-enredo songs that will accompany the 2027 parades. The selection process takes place throughout the entire month, with each school holding its finals to choose the work that will accompany its enredo on the Avenue.
Portela opens the definition season this Friday, in Madureira, starting at 10 PM. The school will choose the samba that will accompany the enredo "To the master, with love," a tribute to one of its greatest names, Monarco. The final will be contested by three competing sambas.
Mangueira and Mocidade Independente complete the first weekend of eliminations, finalizing their sambas on Saturday. At Mangueira, on Visconde de Niterói, they will choose starting at 10 PM the samba for the enredo "Oyá por nós."
During the finals, the composers present their sambas live to the board and to the school community, who prepare to cheer for their favorites. The carnival atmosphere already fills the headquarters of the Special Group schools.
