GNR detains around 280 drivers per week for drunk driving

The Republican National Guard (GNR) detained, between January 1 and July 31, 2026, 8,438 drivers for drunk driving. This figure represents an average of approximately 280 detentions per week. During the same period, 8,856 road crimes related to alcohol consumption were recorded. The GNR is the security force responsible for these detentions and inspections on Portuguese roads.
