GNR detained more than 8 thousand drivers under the influence since the beginning of the year

The Republican National Guard detained 8,438 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol between January 1st and July 31st of this year. During the same period, the GNR registered 8,856 crimes of driving while intoxicated, which represents a monthly average of 1,265 occurrences.

Portuguese legislation establishes that driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.20 grams per liter constitutes a crime. This offense is punishable by a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine of up to 120 days, in addition to a driving ban.
