Images of a wedding held in a flooded church with water at waist height have gone viral in recent days. Leian Lieza Galang and Gilbert Chico decided to go ahead with the ceremony at the St. John the Baptist Church in Hagonoy, Philippines, even with the flooding in the religious temple. The celebration took place on Tuesday (1st) and gathered few relatives and friends.
The parish itself advised the couple to postpone the wedding due to rising waters coming from upstream. The priest in charge of the temple warned about the risk of holding the ceremony under adverse conditions. Even so, the couple chose to proceed with the planned date.
Wedding photographer Mikko Rey Alfonso confirmed that the decision to hold the wedding was solely that of the couple, despite the recommendation to postpone the ceremony. Images of the event captured participants with water at waist height throughout the entire celebration.
Photos of the unusual wedding quickly spread around the world, drawing attention to the couple's determination to go ahead with their marriage on the planned date, regardless of the adverse weather conditions affecting the Philippines region.
