One year after the Glória elevator tragedy, Lisbon holds a tribute to the victims with a memorial. The historic funicular derailed on September 3, 2025, at 6:03 PM, causing one of the biggest tragedies in the Portuguese capital.

The catastrophe resulted in 16 dead and 24 injured. The victims were mostly foreign tourists, which drew international attention to the incident.

The Glória Elevator, one of Lisbon's most iconic monuments, had been in operation for over a century and was a popular tourist attraction in the city. The derailment occurred during a busy day, when several tourists were using the transport.

The authorities opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident. The memorial serves as a way for Lisbon to pay tribute to the victims and mark the first anniversary of the tragedy that shocked the country.
