Crimes that increased the most in Lisbon result from greater PSP presence

RTP Notícias3 September 2026 at 06:30

The number of crimes such as drug trafficking, driving with alcohol or illegally, disobedience and pickpocketing increased this year in greater Lisbon. This growth was verified in the PSP's criminal statistics.

The PSP explains that this increase is mainly due to the reinforcement of police presence on the streets. With more officers on the ground, more occurrences of these types of crime were detected and recorded.

This phenomenon indicates that the increase in numbers does not necessarily reflect more criminal activity, but rather a greater capacity for detection and response on the part of the police authorities in the Lisbon region.
