The Government will inaugurate this Thursday, day 3, the new Eastern Variant to Évora on Main Itinerary 2 (IP2), a road section that represents an investment of 54.9 million euros. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing revealed, in a statement, that the inauguration ceremony will be held by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure.
The work was financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the European financing program aimed at post-pandemic economic recovery. This new section of IP2 aims to improve road connections in the Évora region, facilitating traffic and contributing to the infrastructure development of the Alentejo.
The Eastern Variant constitutes an alternative to the old road that crossed the city of Évora, allowing the diversion of vehicle traffic, particularly heavy vehicles, from the urban center. This change aims to reduce the environmental and noise impact for the city's inhabitants, as well as improve road safety conditions in the region.
