NBA punishes Clippers in 'Kawhi Leonard case': million-dollar fine, owner suspended and draft picks removed

Record2 September 2026 at 23:41

The NBA punished the Los Angeles Clippers for salary cap violations during the signing of Kawhi Leonard. The team was fined millions of dollars, the franchise owner was suspended, and several draft picks were removed.

The league considered it proven that the Clippers circumvented salary cap rules to pay more to the player, who played the forward position.

This is not the first time the Los Angeles franchise has faced sanctions for similar infractions. The team owner, Steve Ballmer, will have a central role in the penalties applied.

Kawhi Leonard, who came to the Clippers from the Toronto Raptors, is associated with this investigation and is preparing to return to the Canadian team.
