Minister of Economy confident in rejection of motion of censure against the Government

RTP Notícias2 September 2026 at 23:40

The Minister of Economy, Manuel Castro Almeida, expressed confidence that the motion of censure presented by the Chega party against the Government will be rejected. This motion arises in the context of some political contestation of the executive's actions.

The government official considered that Luís Neves, Secretary of State of the Treasury, has the conditions to continue in the position. This statement comes at a time when there has been political pressure on members of the Government.

Chega, a far-right party, presented the motion of censure as an instrument of opposition to the executive. The motion will be voted on in the Assembly of the Republic.

Manuel Castro Almeida appeared calm regarding the outcome of the vote, demonstrating confidence in the stability of the parliamentary base that supports the Government.
