STJ postpones trial of action against five TCE-RJ council members accused of corruption and money laundering

The Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice postponed the trial on the merits of Criminal Action 897, which was scheduled for this Wednesday. The process involves five council members of the Court of Accounts of the State of Rio de Janeiro, three former council members and two suspended council members, all accused of being part of a criminal organization dedicated to receiving bribes in public contracts. The trial was rescheduled for the 16th, starting at 9 a.m.

The process is a follow-up to Operation Quinto do Ouro, launched by the Federal Police in March 2017. Among the defendants are former council members Aloysio Neves Guedes and José Maurício Nolasco, both already retired, in addition to Domingos Brazão, who lost his position after being sentenced to 76 years in prison for the assassination of councilwoman Marielle Franco.
