President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received Minister Gilmar Mendes, from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday afternoon (1st) to address the institutional crisis that erupted after revelations that Minister Alexandre de Moraes had frequent contact with banker Daniel Vorcaro, from Banco Master. The meeting did not appear on the official agenda of the Presidency.
According to reports from interlocutors, Lula expressed concern about damage to the institutional image of the Supreme Court. The president is said to have stated that it is necessary to avoid institutional repercussions and wear on the tribunal.
The Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency (Secom) was contacted but did not comment on the meeting. Minister Gilmar Mendes also did not respond to requests for comment.
The messages made public on Tuesday by order of Minister André Mendonça indicate that Vorcaro was being directed by Moraes during the height of the crisis.
