The proposal to end the 6x1 work schedule was approved in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Federal Senate. The matter, presented as a Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC), advanced in the legislative process after being voted on by committee members.
The approved PEC establishes that workers will be entitled to two days of weekly rest, which will represent a significant change in Brazilian labor rules. Currently, the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) allows the 6x1 schedule, in which the employee works six days in a row and has only one day off.
The proposal text also provides for the gradual reduction of the workday from 44 to 40 hours per week. This decrease will be implemented progressively, without any salary reduction for workers affected by the change.
The approval in the CCJ is an important step in the processing of the proposal, which will still need to go through the Senate floor and, subsequently, the Chamber of Deputies to effectively become a change in the Federal Constitution.
