With the deadline of the Recovery and Resilience Plan ended on August 31, the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities called on the Government to accelerate the identification of municipal works and investments that still need financing because they were not completed in time. The appeal was made by the president of ANMP, Pedro Pimpão, on September 2, at the end of a meeting of the association's governing council.
Pedro Pimpão, who also chairs the Municipality of Pombal, expressed concern about investments not yet realized in the areas of education, health and social action. The president of ANMP considered this to be the appropriate moment to determine which projects were left unfinished and to establish the financial needs still existing, noting that the State Budget for the next year is being prepared.
According to the article, there are legislative mechanisms created to allow the transition of projects that were not completed within the PRR schedule. Pedro Pimpão explained that these investments can transition to Portugal 2030 or be integrated into the State Budget for the next year. The Government is said to have committed to making these transition mechanisms swift.
The president of ANMP also congratulated the country on having managed to meet the milestones and targets set under the PRR, highlighting the contribution of local authorities to the completion of the planned investments. Pedro Pimpão stressed that municipalities substituted the central administration to carry out these investments, calling for financing mechanisms to be swift and effective so that ongoing works can continue.
