Aubameyang says goodbye to Gabon: felt humiliated

Dia de Jogo — jornal desportivo2 September 2026 at 19:48

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang announced he will not play for Gabon's national team again, ending an international career of 86 games and 41 goals for the African country. The striker, who had already left the national team in 2022, has now formalized his definitive farewell from international football.

The Marseille player revealed he felt humiliated during his trajectory with the Gabonese national team. Aubameyang did not specify exactly what caused this feeling, but made it clear that the experience deeply affected him.

Aubameyang is considered one of the best footballers in Gabon's history, being the all-time top scorer for the national team. His decision to definitively abandon the national colors comes after a period of absence that had already been ongoing for several years.

With this farewell, Gabon loses one of its greatest sporting symbols, at a time when Gabonese football faces significant challenges. The striker, who has also represented clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Barcelona, thus closes an important chapter in his career.
