The president of the United States suggested, this Wednesday, renaming the Strait of Hormuz as "Trump Strait". The proposal was made during a public address by the US president.

The measure generated diverse comments, with some analysts questioning the viability and purpose of such a name change for the strategic strait, located between Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes in the world for oil transportation, being of great relevance to global energy trade. Any change in its denomination could have diplomatic and symbolic implications.
