Benfica announced, this Wednesday, the contract renewal of Tomás Araújo. The 24-year-old central defender is now linked to the Eagles until June 2031, extending by two more seasons the contract that was due to expire in 2029. Despite no official confirmation from the club, national press reports reveal that the contract update also includes a salary improvement for the Portuguese international.
Tomás Araújo has been gaining more and more importance within the squad coached by Marco Silva. The central defender is part of the captain hierarchy of the first team, which demonstrates the status he has achieved at the club. In the current season, he has been an important piece in the red and white side.
The defender has been at Benfica since 2016/17 and went through all youth levels before definitively establishing himself among the seniors. The only season spent outside the red and white club was in 2022/23, when he was loaned to Gil Vicente. Since his return, he has consolidated as one of the defensive references of the team.
