Two men, aged 53 and 44, were detained by the Republican National Guard on September 1st, during an operation carried out in Travessa da Olaria, in Almeirim. The suspects were brought before the first judicial interrogation the following day, being placed in preventive detention as a precautionary measure. The individuals are suspected of involvement in several armed robberies that occurred in Almeirim and in neighboring municipalities, including a robbery at a pharmacy in the locality of Muge, in the municipality of Salvaterra de Magos, on Monday, August 31st.
The two detainees are of Portuguese nationality and have criminal records for similar crimes. At the time of their detention, they were riding through the center of Almeirim on a high-displacement motorcycle with a fake license plate, wearing dark clothes and with their faces covered. When they were intercepted by the GNR military officers, they attempted to flee the scene.
