The advancement of WhatsApp as a contact channel between businesses and consumers has increased pressure on small and medium-sized companies, which now need to respond quickly, maintain conversation history, and distribute customer service among different team members. This movement follows behavior already consolidated in the Brazilian market.
According to research by the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), 82% of Brazilian small businesses use WhatsApp as their main communication and sales channel, ahead of other digital platforms. The phenomenon is not limited to Brazil.
Data from AppMagic compiled by Mobile Time shows that WhatsApp registered 81% growth in downloads between June and July 2026, jumping from 32 million to 58 million installations worldwide. The app moved from sixth to third position among the most downloaded apps globally.
WhatsApp Business, the version specifically aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, also advanced in the ranking and entered the global top 10, with 23 million downloads, showing the growing adoption of the tool by businesses of all sizes.
