Authorities raised the death toll to 1,225 after the earthquake that struck the Katmandu region in Nepal, and also affected China. The tremor of devastating magnitude caused large-scale destruction in both regions.
There are still 4,757 people missing in Nepal and China. Rescue teams continue working to find survivors under the rubble, but operations are being hindered by aftershocks and adverse conditions.
Nepal is the most affected country, with the majority of deaths concentrated in the Katmandu capital region. China has also recorded fatalities and significant damage in areas near the border with Nepal.
