The average temperature of the planet is approaching the 1.5°C warming threshold relative to the pre-industrial era, a limit set by the Paris Agreement. The UN admits that temporarily exceeding this figure will become increasingly likely, but maintains that there is still a path to subsequently reduce the temperature. To achieve this goal, it will be necessary to accelerate emission cuts, reach negative net emissions, and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
