"Batatada" cuts access to A1 in Coimbra

Notícias de Coimbra2 September 2026 at 18:53

Hundreds of kilos of potatoes were scattered across the A1 Motorway in Coimbra after a heavy vehicle lost part of its load on the carriageway. The incident caused road access closures and affected normal traffic flow in the area.

Authorities were called to intervene at the scene and proceed with road cleaning to restore traffic circulation. The accident caused significant inconvenience to drivers travelling on that section of the A1.

The situation was informally dubbed a "batatada" by the media, in reference to the type of product that caused the motorway blockage.
