Torreense can only register 21 players in the Europa League: Costinha likely to be left out

Record2 September 2026 at 18:46

Torreense, a club from western Portugal, faces limitations on player registration for the Europa League. The club can only register 21 players in the European competition, instead of the usual 25.

The reason for this limitation is due to Torreense not meeting the requirement regarding homegrown players. UEFA rules require a minimum number of players who have come through the club's youth academy, something the western club is unable to satisfy.

As a consequence of this situation, the club will have to exclude four players from the registered list for the competition. The coaching staff and club management will have to make difficult decisions about who will be left out.

Among the players likely to be left out is Costinha, the veteran player who is not expected to be included in the final registered list for the Europa League, precisely due to the restrictions imposed by the limited number of available spots.
