German authorities identified two main suspects of the attack on Leipzig airport: a Russian with a Latvian passport and a Belarusian. The two are considered the main responsible parties for the incident that occurred at the airport.
According to the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, authorities express skepticism about the possibility of the suspects ever being brought to trial to answer for their actions.
This skepticism is due to the history of similar cases, in which it has not been possible to try foreign agents who committed crimes in the European Union. The main reason is related to the fact that these individuals do not return to community territory after committing the crimes, which significantly hinders any judicial process.
