Amadora-Sintra emergency department attended to almost 650 patients over the last two days, more than 60% were urgent and very urgent

On August 31st and September 1st, the emergency department at Hospital Fernando da Fonseca, in Amadora-Sintra, attended to almost 650 patients. More than 60% of the users who sought the service were classified as urgent or very urgent cases.

During those two days, waiting times for first assessment reached 11 hours for urgent patients. This Wednesday, the situation remained complicated at the start of the day, with waits also of 11 hours, although they decreased to around four hours by 3:00 PM.

The Minister of Health has already publicly acknowledged that the waiting times were high and warned that the situation may worsen in the coming days.

The hospital justifies the overload with the high volume of demand and the complexity of the cases arriving at the emergency department, which require more time for treatment and observation.
