Chega advances with motion of censure

ZAP Notícias2 September 2026 at 17:10

The leader of Chega, André Ventura, announced that the party submitted this Wednesday a motion of censure in Parliament against the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves. The decision comes after the Government maintained the minister in office, despite the various controversies that have affected the former PSP leadership.

André Ventura justified the motion stating that "a minister who decides to explain nothing cannot be tolerated," referring to the lack of clarification from Luís Neves about the controversies surrounding him. The "mess," as Ventura designated the situation, has for Chega only one possible path.

The motion of censure does not have the support of the PS, the party that sustains the Government. According to Ventura, the socialists are thus "stuck to Neves" in Chega's eyes, that is, associated with defending the minister without him having provided the required explanations.

In addition to the motion of censure, Chega also advances with an inquiry committee to investigate the matter. The far-right party thus intends to pressure the Executive and obtain answers about the controversies involving the Ministry of Internal Administration.

The situation is marked by an institutional irony: now as Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves is being scrutinized by the institution he previously directed.
