Manchester City paid €145.8 million to Chelsea for the signing of Enzo Fernández, setting a new record in English football. The transfer surpasses any amount already paid by an English club for a player.
The City bought the Argentine midfielder from a direct rival in the Premier League, Chelsea, in a deal that involved an unprecedented million-dollar amount in English football.
Benfica again benefits financially from this transfer. The Portuguese club had already sold Enzo Fernández to Chelsea in January 2023 for a significantly lower amount, and now receives a percentage of this subsequent sale, as was agreed in the terms of the previous transfer.
