Jornal do Algarve2 September 2026 at 16:45

The 26th Tavira Open-Air Film Showcase took place at the Claustros of the Convento do Carmo, bringing together over 3,500 participants. Under the theme "music, love and desire for transformation", the event presented 22 feature films and one short film by Tavira-born director Inês Nunes.

July was the month with the highest attendance, with the opening featuring the film "One to One: John & Yoko", which was sold out. Films such as "Um Poeta", "Agente Secreto", "Arco", "Dj Ahmet" and "Foi Só um Acidente" attracted around two hundred people per session. In August, "O Olhar Misterioso do Flamingo" deserved special attention, while "Valor Sentimental" required the organization to improvise additional seating in the auditorium.

The festival stood out for its conversations with filmmakers, with the presence of Inês Nunes, Catarina Alves Costa and Pedro Pinho. The documentary "Orlando Pantera" by Catarina Alves Costa achieved the highest score among the audience, with 9.40 points, while "A Pequena Amélie" came in second place. "O Riso e a Faca" by Pedro Pinho was chosen for the closing session.

The organization, run by the Cineclube de Tavira, involved dozens of volunteers and had the support of the Tavira City Council, the ICA, Europa Cinemas, CCDR Algarve and entities from the local business community. Programmer Candela Varas expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that there are spectators who never miss an edition and that new faces appear at the event every year.
