The Association "Walking with D. António Francisco dos Santos" held its first meeting on August 29, the birth date of the former Bishop of Porto, in Cinfães. The meeting, which was attended by the mayor and the Municipal Assembly of Cinfães, had as its motto "Moved by the Love of God. We should not be afraid of Goodness."
The association's immediate objective is the recovery of D. António Francisco dos Santos's house in Mourelos, in the parish of Tendais, with a view to creating a house museum. D. António was a native of Mourelos and died suddenly on September 11, 2017 at the Episcopal House of the Diocese of Porto, where he had been diocesan bishop since 2014.
The association arose in response to the legal recognition of an action already carried out spontaneously by friends and admirers of D. António, with the objective of keeping alive the testimony of life and mission that he left behind. During the meeting, the ongoing initiatives were shared, namely the creation of the museum and the recruitment of active members, and it was possible to complete several dozen registrations, although many more are needed.
In the context of the first meeting, Canon João Carlos, vicar general of the Diocese of Lamego, presided over a Mass at the Mother Church of Cinfães. The association's communication expresses confidence that more members will emerge as the message spreads.
