The Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity opened registrations for the 2026/2027 edition of the school program Fruit Heroes, which targets pre-school and primary school classes across the country. The program, which was launched in 2011, seeks to encourage healthier habits in children's nutrition, highlighting the role that fruit and vegetables have in daily diet.

This initiative is already practiced in some schools in Alto Minho and has been bearing fruit. According to a study published in the European Journal of Nutrition, the program contributed to a 44.6% increase in the number of students who started consuming the recommended doses of fruit and vegetables.

Registrations are free and run until October 31, 2026. Classes from public and private educational institutions can participate, as well as kindergartens, school clusters, ATL, CATL and AAF.

Registrations can be made through the link heroisdafruta.com/p/inscricao.html.
