A Mi-8 helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing on a road on Sakhalin Island, in Russia's Far East, on Wednesday (9/2). The aircraft, identified by the number 72 on the fuselage, overturned in the vegetation alongside a highway after losing power during flight. Motorists passing through the area recorded the tense moment of the helicopter's descent.

The aircraft was carrying members of the regional electoral commission and filming crews at the time of the accident. According to information from the Telegram channel "Fighterbomber," which has proximity to the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, the cause of the accident was fuel shortage. The fuel starvation led to a critical engine failure, with immediate loss of power after the tank ran dry.

The Russian specialized portal "Defense Blog" echoed the information, highlighting that the loss of power was immediate after the fuel tank ran dry. The "Fighterbomber" channel serves as a reference for Russian military aviation and is frequently used to disseminate information about air incidents in the country.
