Nepal's Parliament officially declared climate change as a national security threat. This decision was made following the devastating flooding that hit the country last week, causing more than 1,100 dead and nearly 4,000 people missing.
The approved proposal was presented by the mayor, Dol Prasad Aryal. The document calls on the Government to assert Nepal's position on the international stage regarding the increasing risks the region faces due to climate change.
The main objective of this declaration is to prevent future similar tragedies. The parliament wants the executive to take concrete measures to address the climate crisis and protect the population from its increasingly severe effects.
