Almost a year after the derailment of the Gloria elevator, in Lisbon, which resulted in the death of 16 people, the criminal investigation is still ongoing and should only be concluded in the first quarter of 2027. The Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Lisbon indicated that the expertise and technical tests have a predicted completion date of November.
The Public Prosecutor's Office explained that the evolution of the expert work has raised new doubts and the need for additional technical clarifications, which necessitated the conducting of new tests. The investigation continued during the judicial vacation period and now awaits the finalization of the expert reports.
After the conclusion of the tests in November, a detailed analysis of the facts will follow, along with the evaluation of whether the evidence is sufficient and the determination of any criminal responsibilities. The DIAP of Lisbon released this information in a statement sent to the newsrooms, aiming to update the public on the progress of the inquiry and the expected deadline for its conclusion.
