Ghost fleets are secretly draining oil through the Strait of Hormuz

Fleets composed of tankers that turn off their identification systems are secretly transporting oil through the Strait of Hormuz, allowing the activity to go unnoticed. This practice, known as "ghost fleet," has been used to circumvent international monitoring.

This tactic is not exclusive to Iran. Saudi, Kuwaiti, Qatari and Emirati oil tankers are also transporting crude in the dark through the strait, with US Navy escort.

The main objective of this strategy is to avoid possible attacks in the region, where geopolitical tensions remain high. By turning off identification systems, ships can operate without their activity being publicly recorded.
