Quercus publicly denounced the intention of the Covilhã City Council to fell 1,400 cork oaks to expand the industrial park of Tortosendo. The environmental association states that this felling is planned within the scope of the revision of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM), whose public discussion ends next Friday.
In a statement sent to O INTERIOR, Quercus recalls that the cork oak is a protected species, emphasizing the importance of this tree for the ecosystem and the environment. The association expresses its opposition to the massive felling of cork oaks for industrial expansion purposes.
The revision of the PDM of Covilhã is currently in the public discussion phase, which means that citizens can still submit their opinions and objections regarding the proposals included in the plan, including the project to expand the industrial park of Tortosendo.
