Marius Borg, convicted and wearing ankle monitor, to reappear with the royal family at Harald's funeral

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Princess Mette-Marit with Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, reappeared alongside the Norwegian royal family at the funeral of King Harald V, held on August 31. Despite being convicted and wearing an electronic ankle monitor, he walked through the halls of the Royal Palace beside the monarch's coffin during the farewell ceremony.

Marius actively participated in the transfer of the body to the chapel, joining the group that included Crown Prince Haakon, Ingrid Alexandra, Sverre Magnus, Märtha Louise and her three daughters. He was treated as one of the late king's sons and grandchildren, walking with the royal family during the farewell.

Marius's presence at the funeral, however, was not automatic. He was the only family member who needed to obtain authorization from the Prosecutor's Office to participate in the ceremony, due to his status as a convicted person and the judicial restrictions to which he is subject.

Marius Borg Høiby's situation illustrates his unique position within the new Norwegian royal family. Although he is considered part of the royal family and participates in important events such as his grandfather's funeral, he remains subject to judicial measures that set him apart from other family members, requiring special permissions to be present at formal occasions.
