Eurozone unemployment rate rises slightly. Portugal below European Union average

SAPO Notícias2 September 2026 at 13:30

The unemployment rate in the eurozone recorded an increase of 0.1 percentage points in July, settling at 6.4%, according to data published by Eurostat. This value represents an increase compared to the 6.3% registered in the same period of the previous year. In the European Union as a whole, the unemployment rate went from 6.0% to 6.1% in the same comparison period.

Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, is the entity responsible for publishing these economic data. The numbers indicate a slight deterioration of the labor market both in the eurozone and in the European Union as a whole.

Portugal is positioned below the average of the European Union in terms of unemployment rate. This situation places the country in a relatively favorable position when compared to other EU member states.

The increase recorded, although modest in percentage terms, reflects a trend of worsening labor conditions in the European region during the period under analysis.
