Jornal da CBN presented on Wednesday (2) another edition of "50 Debates para o Brasil," a series that discusses relevant topics for the country's future and for the October elections. In this edition, the program debated the taxation and control of bets and sports betting.
The regulated betting market generates jobs and tax revenue, but also raises concerns related to debt, gambling dependency, and the exposure of vulnerable groups. The discussion sought to establish how far the State should intervene in the sector.
On one side, there are those who advocate for higher taxation and stricter controls to discourage betting and fund prevention policies. On the other side, industry representatives warn that excessive taxes can reduce the competitiveness of licensed platforms and encourage migration to illegal sites.
