Caiado keeps betting on 'notables' and picks Ratinho Jr. for potential government

oglobo2 September 2026 at 12:58

Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) announced on Tuesday, the 1st, that Paraná Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD) would be his choice to lead the Ministry of Infrastructure in a potential government. The announcement was made through a video posted on social media, in which Caiado presented Ratinho as responsible for managing "all highways, railroads, waterways and so on" in his potential government.

Caiado's strategy is to present names he intends to bring to the first echelon during the campaign, should he reach the presidential palace. Ratinho Junior is one of the most well-known governors in the PSD and leaves office at the end of the year, after two terms leading Paraná, which facilitates his availability to take a position in a future government.

The move comes as Caiado tries to expand his candidacy's space on the right and differentiate himself from other names in the conservative spectrum, such as Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL). The choice of a party ally for a strategic portfolio reinforces the attempt to build an image of a viable and competitive candidate in the presidential race.
