Lula's campaign meets on Wednesday (2) to assess crisis over Moraes

cbn2 September 2026 at 13:07

President Lula's campaign coordinators meet on Wednesday (2) to assess the crisis involving Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The crisis arose after revelations of conversations between Moraes and former banker Daniel Vorcaro, investigated for the country's largest bank fraud.

According to PT sources heard by CBN, the campaign seeks to analyze the impacts of the revelations and define guidelines, since Lula maintains a close relationship with the minister. The fear is that the situation will be exploited by the opposition in the re-election race.

Some of Lula's allies believe he should "distance himself from the minister's image," who is at the center of the controversy. Lula himself said in an interview in April that he advised Moraes to declare himself disqualified from judging the case involving Banco Master, to protect the biography built in the trial of the January 8 acts.

The government leader in the Chamber, Deputy Paulo Pimenta (PT-RS), again defended this morning full transparency in the investigations. The expectation is that Wednesday's meeting will define the campaign's official position regarding the crisis.
