The American oil company Chevron announced that it will invest 7 billion dollars in Venezuela, in a plan to double oil production in the country over the next five years.
Chevron signed agreements with the Venezuelan government and obtained the right to explore two large oil fields located in the Orinoco Belt, one of the largest heavy oil reserves in the world.
This investment represents the largest financial contribution made by a major oil company in Venezuela since US special forces captured President Nicolás Maduro, in a period marked by international economic sanctions against the South American country.
