Ülle Madise was elected president of Estonia, becoming the second woman to lead the country. The vote took place in Estonia's Parliament, where the sole candidate received 71 votes, surpassing the 68 required to be elected.
Ülle Madise is currently Estonia's ombudsman, a position that gave her significant experience in defending the rights of Estonian citizens. Her election represents a historic milestone for the Baltic country.
The inauguration is scheduled for October 12, the date from which Madise will formally assume leadership of the Estonian state for the coming years.
