Four municipalities in Piauí may have an increase in transfers from the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM) starting in 2027. The projection was prepared based on the 2026 population estimates released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The survey identifies which cities are close to the population thresholds used to define the FPM coefficients, which is the main instrument for transferring federal resources to Brazilian municipalities.
When a municipality reaches certain population thresholds, it begins to receive a higher FPM coefficient, resulting in a greater volume of resources from the Union. This is why IBGE's estimates are closely monitored by city halls.
The cities that meet the established criteria will begin receiving the updated values starting in early 2027, after the publication of the definitive data by the institute.
