Birdwatching Festival in Sagres now open for registration

Registration for the Birdwatching & Nature Activities Festival is now open, with the 17th edition taking place from October 2 to 5 in Sagres. The event celebrates the autumn migration of birds and includes over 300 activities in nature, with an enhanced offering in scientific bird ringing, arts, and introductory birdwatching.

Among this year's highlights are moth photography and a sound safari. Also returning are bird observation sessions on land and at sea, walks along the Via Algarviana, and challenges for the younger participants.

The festival also includes the scientific conference "Nature in Revelation", in which researchers and experts will share work that helps us better understand the natural world.

The event is organized by the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA-BirdLife) and Almargem Association. The full programme is available on the SPEA website.

(RE)VIVER WORKSHOPS KICK OFF IN MESÃO FRIO WITH AROUND 70 PARTICIPANTS

The (Re)Viver Workshops kicked off in Mesão Frio with around 70 participants, in a new cycle of activities presented at the Municipal Auditorium. The Councilor for Social Action, Sandra Ferreira, welcomed the participants and encouraged them to contribute with suggestions for the program. The calendar includes activities such as dance, music, creative workshop, Boccia, cognitive stimulation, cooking and senior cinema, with sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The initiative aims to promote active aging and provide moments of learning and socialization for seniors in the municipality.

At the Freixo Detachment, the passion for firefighting passes from parents to children

For 25 years, Patrícia Alves became one of the first female firefighters at the Freixo Detachment, of the Ponte de Lima Volunteer Firefighters. Today, her son Pedro, 13 years old, participates in the School for Juniors and Cadets during the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the structure, symbolizing the continuity of a family tradition of service. The firefighter joined the corps without having family members connected to the fire department, but found in the detachment a husband and a rewarding experience. Her son Pedro revealed that he wants to be a firefighter in the future, having learned at the little school skills such as basic life support and hose handling. The School for Juniors and Cadets is a project that aims to bring the community closer to the firefighters' cause and instill the spirit of service from an early age.
