Christine Lagarde was elected the third most powerful person of 2026. The Frenchwoman, who chairs the European Central Bank, saw her fight against inflation declared almost won, until a new armed conflict forced her to change her plans and intervene again.
The armed conflict referred to is said to have reversed the downward trend in inflation that seemed to be achieved, forcing the ECB president to resume monetary policy efforts to address the new economic reality.
Christine Lagarde has just over a year left to complete her mandate as president of the European Central Bank, which is approaching its end. Her professional future after leaving the ECB remains open, with her next professional steps unclear.
