Iranian hackers have carried out recurring attempts at cyberattacks against United States infrastructure in recent weeks. The cyberattack attempts specifically targeted automated systems connected to the internet. So far, according to the report, these attempts have not been successful. A channel on Telegram that presents itself as a spokesperson for Iranian cyber operations also published threats against American infrastructure.
The group identified as APT IRAN sent a message via Telegram warning that "soon, the United States will witness unexpected and critical events in the energy, water, and telecommunications sectors." However, the channel presented no proof that the cyber operations against the United States have been successful.
Experts consulted by NBC News stated that Iran historically uses cyberattacks more as an intimidation tool than to cause effective damage. The FBI also commented on the matter, but the final section of the article was cut off.
