Spanish defender Jesús Vallejo, known as Puerta, publicly expressed his desire to join Benfica, but ended up signing for Olympiakos, a Greek club. The Spanish player expressed satisfaction at being at the Greek club, declaring it was a pleasure to be there.
Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Olympiakos, revealed that Puerta had a preference for the Portuguese reds, even after the Greeks had proceeded with payment of the player's release clause. This decision by the player ended up frustrating the intentions of the Greek club.
Puerta, who has represented Real Madrid throughout his career, ended up accepting Olympiakos's proposal despite knowing the player's wish to head to Lisbon. The Greek club showed firm interest by activating the release clause, but couldn't convince the defender to choose the Greek league.
