The amount of new time deposit operations from households increased by 1.7 billion euros in July, exceeding 13.7 billion euros, which corresponds to the highest value ever. This growth reflects the growing interest of investors in savings products with more attractive returns.
Banks raised the average interest rate on new applications for the sixth consecutive month, rising by 0.04 percentage points in July compared to the previous month, settling at 1.59%. This rate represents the highest value since April 2025.
According to the Bank of Portugal, the improvement in deposit returns follows the widespread rise in market rates, including Euribor, which has been influencing the conditions offered by banks to depositors.
