Queen Mette-Marit urgently hospitalized on Haakon VIII's inauguration day. Find out what happened

SAPO Notícias2 September 2026 at 10:54

Queen Mette-Marit of Norway was urgently admitted to Oslo National Hospital on the day her husband Haakon VIII's inauguration was taking place. The monarch was absent from the king's oath-taking ceremony before the Storting, the Norwegian parliament, due to health complications.

The complications are associated with a recent lung transplant the queen underwent. Mette-Marit's health condition worsened unexpectedly, leading to her hospitalization during a day that was marked as an important date for the Norwegian monarchy.

The queen's absence from the ceremony was noticed, as Mette-Marit would normally be present by her husband's side on this type of solemn occasion. Oslo National Hospital became the center of attention while the inauguration was taking place at the parliament.

This episode comes at a time when the queen's health has been a cause for concern, following the lung transplant surgery. The Norwegian authorities have not disclosed further details about Mette-Marit's current health status following the hospitalization.
