Foreign workers already represent 18.6% of the workforce in Portugal, corresponding to 906,019 people contributing to Social Security. This number means that almost one in five contributors in the country is of foreign origin.
In June, this group of workers delivered 427.82 million euros in contributions to Social Security. In return, they received 64.69 million euros in social benefits during the same period.
This difference between contributions and benefits results in a positive net balance of 363.13 million euros for Portuguese Social Security. This value demonstrates the significant contribution of foreign workers to the Social Security system in Portugal.
